As part of our ongoing People-First initiative, Evonith is committed to utilizing sustainable and planet-friendly resources wherever possible. We understand the importance of reducing our carbon footprint and actively seek innovative solutions to promote a greener future. In line with this commitment, we embarked on a pilot project aimed at reducing LPG and firewood consumption among the villages neighbouring Evonith Steel Complex in Wardha.
To achieve this, we facilitated and installed IRESA units—a renewable energy source that harnesses the power of biogas. These units utilize a variety of raw materials, including agricultural waste, manure, municipal waste, plant material, sewage, green waste, wastewater, and food waste, to produce cooking gas. By implementing these units, we are not only reducing the dependency on traditional sources of fuel but also contributing to the circular economy by utilizing bio-waste effectively.
Through this pilot project, we have empowered 35 families in five villages to embrace biogas as a sustainable alternative. The benefits of this initiative are far-reaching:
By switching to biogas, these families will collectively save approximately 8,50,000 Rupees in annual firewood consumption.
Additionally, they will save 2,16,200 Rupees in gas consumption for a year, thanks to the utilization of renewable biogas.
The slurry produced as a byproduct of biogas production can be used as a nutrient-rich compost fertilizer. Its market value is estimated at 1,91,600 Rupees, contributing to a more sustainable agricultural cycle.
By adopting biogas as a renewable energy source, we are not only minimizing environmental impact but also creating a pathway toward a more self-sufficient and sustainable future. These efforts align with our ongoing People-First initiative, which prioritizes the well-being and prosperity of the communities we serve.
Stay tuned for more updates on our sustainability initiatives as we continue to prioritize the use of planet-friendly resources and drive positive change in our community.
